Living Tortona

The newly built residential complex is composed of two buildings, one overlooking via Giorza and the other inside the courtyard, which host, respectively, 10 apartments plus the super attic and 10 duplex apartments with garden or terrace.

The main theme of the project is the indoor-outdoor relationship which is evident through a generous use of open areas and theuse of greenery. This element becomes the visual constant and the filter between the private environment of the apartment and what happens outside, and it is integrated within the large terraces, which are real outdoor rooms. On the facades. the light colours enhance the chiaroscuro effect created by the deep structural projections. Indoors, the choice of warm, modern materials enhances the natural light that enters through large glass openings, patios and light wells.

The light colours of the facades and the deep projecting volumes enhance the chiaroscuro effect and create a vibrant composition designed to be traversed visually in a dynamic way when walking along via Giorza.

The large windows and the material and chromatic choice of the white metal sheets define a minimalist and elegant style.

A pivotal element of the project is the presence of open spaces, characterized by a detailed design of green areas, directly connected to the homes.

Greenery is integrated in the terrace floors which are true three-dimensional extensions of the living spaces.

Distinctive architectural elements such as interior patios and the large skylights are designed to optimize permeability of natural light into the rooms in order to achieve maximum comfort.

The decision to use metal to cover the facades is reminiscent of the area’s industrial vocation, which historically has been characterized by iron and cast-iron working and the production of large metal products. In the immediate vicinity there are still some buildings that bear witness to its production past, such as Ansaldo, the large area that was abandoned a few years ago and one of the production centres of Riva-Calzoni, in addition to the small businesses that are still present. There is still a company that produces rolling stock for railways on via Giorza today.

The main front of the building overlooking via Giorza, a narrow private road, has been designed with a play of volumes that make the architectural composition visible, even from the side perspective views.

The lighting design for the facades aims to enhance the architectural forms by highlighting the projecting volumes and the greenery.

Each residential unit is differentiated by the careful definition of the layout aimed at optimizing the function of the spaces.

Architecture and technology bring nature into the city with a view to improving the urban ecosystem and saving energy and resources. With the use of geothermal and photovoltaic technologies, together with the meticulous study of the construction details of the shell and the interior details, Living Tortona squarely enters this perspective and it makes the building pioneering from the climate point of view.
The furnishings of the show unit have been custom designed with the ad hoc integration of industrial production elements by the best brands on the market.
